Ramadan: Ayah of the Day #19

Today I share with you a reminder from Surah As Saff of the Quran. An important reminder indeed!

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah untruth while he is being invited to Islam. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

(As Saff 61:7)

In this Ayah Allah swt defines the unjust people as in the ones who invent lies against Allah swt. The people who associate partners with Him swt, the ones who attribute sons to Him, when He swt is pure of all such needs. Such are the people, whom Allah swt has termed has unjust. There can be two sorts of people in this category. One who commit shirk and the others who lie about Allah swt.

First, the ones who commit shirk, unless and until they seek Allah swt’s forgiveness are among the eternal losers destined for Hell. Allah will never have His mercy on them. These are the people who knowingly associate partners and sons to Him. Who openly do kufr, and declare their disbelief. Who do not accept the Oneness (Tawheed) of Allah swt. Another kind of people who fall into this category are the ones among the believers who are deviated from the true path of tawheed. They associate helpers to Allah swt, take learned men and scholars as their auliya or maula, and attribute to these men, what should be attributed to Allah swt alone. These are the ones who commit minor shirk, knowingly or unknowingly and sometimes are too near to falling into major shirk as well. May Allah swt protect us from all types of shirk.

We should always beware of falling into shirk, minor as well as major. We might be treading on a dangerous territory sometimes unknowingly and therefore might never know what we are saying and what we are doing. Always seek protection with Allah swt from shirk. Memorize this duaa and make it a part of your daily supplications.

O Allah, I seek refuge with You lest I should commit shirk with You knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly

The second aspect to this ayah in being unjust is inventing lies against Allah swt. Saying things that are not true and not from Allah swt, but attributing it to Him swt. These can be the verses of the Quran or the Hadeeth or about anything pertaining to Allah swt and Islam. Therefore you should always be 100% sure of saying only the truth about Islam and Allah swt, when you are discussing, debating, or explaining any matter of the religion to someone. Make sure that you do not quote or explain an ayah out of its context just to make your point. This knowledge is an amanah to you, and you will be asked about it. Therefore never speak about things you do not know of. Be humble enough to accept that you do not not everything and push your ego aside. Saying, I don’t know is far better than just saying anything about it  without any knowledge of the matter. You may be doing more harm than good to your deen and your imaan.  May Allah swt make us all humble and careful with regards to His Amanah. Allah swt will never forgive such people, those who invent lies against Him and those who are unjust by associating partners to Him. He swt promises not to guide these wrong doers, unless of course they turn to Him swt in sincere repentance

May Allah swt protect us from sorts of Shirk, minor as well as major, known as well as hidden, which we might knowingly or unknowingly commit. May heswt make us not among the wrongdoers and keep us always in His mercy, love and guidance.
